The joy of reading an email which began, ‘I have great pleasure ….’ took the wind out of me. It had taken seven years, three manuscripts, an agent, an editor, and endless support from family and friends when I was sure it would never happen! Though, in all honesty, it’s a familiar tale. The number of authors who receive (or appear to receive) overnight success is very small.
